Teacher Lesson Plans - Update Your School
Introduction (10 minutes)
Ask the students which things they would like to improve in their school or university. Get feedback and write it all on the board. You can start the exercise by writing the names of different parts of the school on the board, such as teachers, buildings, classrooms, activities, dorms, lunchrooms, curriculum, sports, library, bathrooms, day length, study aids, career advice, etc.
Task (30 minutes)
Ask the class to create 6 groups, and assign a type to each group. They types are as follows;
- Students,
- Teachers
- Librarians
- Canteen staff
- Technicians
- University Leaders
Inform them that there is 100,000 RMB (or a suitable currency) available for improvement. Each group must decide on 3 ways to improve their area. The improvements should cost different amounts, with the total being no more than 100,000 RMB. The groups will present their ideas in a unique way, lasting no longer than 4 minutes each. The notable exception is the leaders group, who should use this time to converse with the teacher and practice oral English.
Presentation (30 minutes)
The leaders should sit in the front row and listen to each presentation, asking questions where necessary. They must decide on how to spend the money, and should give feedback on ideas or groups they liked. They should still limit themselves to 100,000 RMB and cannot change the costs of the suggestions, but can select as many ideas as they like.
