Our Recommendations - Film

Mr Brooks (2007)

I saw this film recently and thought it was pretty good. It stars Kevin Costner as a husband and philanthropist, but who also is a serial killer in secret. In case you don't know Kevin Costner, he was a successful actor in the 1990's who then decided to direct movies himself and failed at least twice ('Waterworld' and 'The Postman') with lots of his own money lost. However, he is a good actor, and I really liked this film.

The Killing Fields (1986)

He was a reporter for the New York Times whose coverage of the Cambodian War would win him a Pulitzer Prize for international reporting. But the friend who made it possible was half the world away with his life in great danger... This is the story of war and friendship, the anguish of a country and of one man's will to live.

Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994)

A well-known British film which can introduce you to the accent if you haven't had much contact, plus offer some views of life and culture inside the UK. It stars Hugh Grant, who is easy to understand although a little posh. A funny and beautiful film.

Transformers (2007)

A new blockbuster which reignites an old comic book legend. A good update of the original, and definitely worth seeing as the most anticipated film of the year. Watch it in English of course.

The Shining (1980)

A famous horror film written by the famous American horror writer Stephen King. This was made in the 1970's, and is quite scary. It is set in a large hotel, which is haunted and affects those staying there. The film is best known for three script lines; 'redrum', 'all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, and 'here's Johnny.' Watch it if you dare!

The Prestige (2006)

A clever film about rivalry between 2 magicians. Multiple twists and an inventive script make this a very good film. Definitely worth watching.
