I just finished some work related things and am free now. I wanted to write a few posts in the morning but didn’t get a chance.

We watched a movie “21” last night. It’s based on a true story of six MIT students who used their math’s skills to earn money in Las Vegas. Although the movie was dramatized and spiced up to pull audience it made me curious to learn more about those students.

I Googled and found out that three of them were from Asian decent and their teacher was also from Asia. They used to count cards in casinos during the weekends while studying on weekdays. They were active for almost three years until the security black listed them. The movie was very much different from the reality but I think it was necessary to attract the commoner.

Hi Learneng,

I watched that film too recently, did you like it? I am interested in maths and bought both that film and another called 'The Oxford Murders.' The first was American, the second mainly British. And in my opinion the first film was the better of the two (Britain is bending towards the American film style and doing it badly!).

The only problem I really had with film, apart from the excessive acting of Spacey, was the maths. It was all 'glammed-up' and not always fair. The example of choosing the prize doors was a silly choice, and very wrong indeed. Oh well, I look forward to better maths films in the future...
