I heard this a lot and not sure whether the exact use of it. Also, is it a slang or saying?

It's a slang phrase, not an idiom, because you need to use it with a modifying verb at the beginning. It means lots of attempts to do the same thing, and is neither positive nor negative. So for example;

Beat me six ways to Sunday = beat me many times

This could be positive or negative depending on the chosen meaning of beat (to win, or to strike)
