Hi dear Luke !!!

I watched the final match of Eurocup and navigating by the web I found an interesting article with this headline "A megpie for sorrow" , http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=496279&root=england&&cc=3888 , according to the dictionary magpie is a talkactive person, so maybe inside the article context shall I understand that the couch is talking too much without a positive result ?
How do you all understand it ?

I'm not a great football fan, but I know enough to say that a magpie is the slang name for Newcastle FC.

To say one magpie for sorrow would be to probably admit that a Newcastle player played a significant part in his teams failure. Just my guess!

Magpies are black and white birds (which look like the Newcastle team uniform). Seeing just one magpie is considered unlucky in the UK. We have a rhyme for how many you see and the effect:

One for sorrow
Two for joy
Three for a girl
Four for a boy
Five for silver
Six for gold
Seven for a secret never to be told.
